The Challanges
For many cultural tourism projects built in ancient cities, historical blocks or compact scenic spots, limited space is an inevitable constraint—these areas are rich in cultural heritage and tourist flow, but their fixed architectural layout and spatial scale make it difficult to carry large-scale stage installations and traditional performing arts forms.
The diverse carriers characteristics including gauze screens, floors, walls, and even irregular architectural surfaces may bring uneven projection effects, which means that projection solution would require highly demands to avoid breaking immersion.

The Results
The core of Appotronics’ solution to the spatial challenge lies in precision product deployment and versatile adaptation including compact design, optional lenses adapt diverse application scenarios, cutting-edge blending and warping functionalities, which maximizes the expressive power of light and shadow in every corner of the limited space. The team deployed 29 laser projectors across five performing spaces, with a scientific combination of S series, T Pro series and G series products based on the size, height, and functional positioning of each space: compact S series projectors are used to create delicate, vivid images in narrow inner halls; high-performance T Pro series units deliver high-brightness, high-definition projection for key narrative scenes that require visual impact; and G series projectors are tailored for multi-carrier projection in composite spaces. This targeted configuration ensures that no space is wasted, and every inch of the venue is activated by light and shadow.
Another key to breaking the spatial limit is Appotronics’ ultra-high-definition image quality and smooth dynamic projection performance. Appotronics’ laser projectors, powered by the proprietary ALPD semiconductor laser light source technology, deliver exquisitely detailed 4K-level images, a wide color gamut and high contrast ratio. Even in the complex light environment of the open-air and semi-enclosed mixed space of Hubu Alley, the projections remain clear and vivid—every line of the Northern Wei murals, every texture of the ancient stone carvings, and every subtle expression of the characters is rendered with precision. At the same time, the projectors support smooth dynamic image switching and multi-machine fusion projection, which allows the light and shadow scenes to change in perfect sync with the audience’s walking pace and the development of the plot.

The successful cooperation between Appotronics and A Dream of Datong marks a brilliant practice of laser projection technology in the field of immersive cultural tourism performing arts. It demonstrates Appotronics’ profound expertise in customising light and shadow solutions for large-scale cultural tourism projects, as well as its commitment to empowering the integration of culture and tourism with cutting-edge display technology. By turning historical stories into immersive sensory experiences, Appotronics is not only writing a new chapter of light and shadow on Datong’s cultural tourism stage.
