Congratulations to the China Pavilion for Winning the Gold Award for Large Self-Built Pavilions at Expo Osaka — A Light and Shadow Retrospective with Appotronics

On October 12, the China Pavilion at Expo Osaka received the Gold Award for Large Self-Built Pavilions from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). This is the first time China has earned a Gold Award at a comprehensive world expo, marking the fifth major recognition received by CCPIT since it began leading China’s participation in international expos in 1982.

As the exclusive projection and immersive AV solutions provider for the entire pavilion, Appotronics is proud to revisit the key light-and-shadow experiences that contributed to this award-winning presentation, where ALPD® laser projection brought cultural narratives to life.

Three Core Exhibition Zones: Cultural Storytelling Through Light

Shaped like a 3,500 m² “Chinese Scroll,” the China Pavilion unfolds in three chapters—Harmony of Heaven and Humanity, Green Mountains and Clear Waters, and Endless Vitality. Across these zones, Appotronics’ engineering laser projectors delivered bright, stable, and color-accurate projection mapping, even in highly complex installation and lighting environments.

Harmony of Heaven and Humanity

1. River of Words

Over ten Appotronics D-Series projectors transform 119 classical Chinese characters into a flowing “river of words,” projected from a height of 13 meters onto a semi-transparent ceiling—a dynamic visualization of the evolution of Chinese writing.

2. Civilization Relics

Five D Pro-Series units, paired with detailed topographic models, recreate ancient water systems and archeological sites such as Liangzhu and Yinxu, allowing visitors to observe thousands of years of ecological wisdom with remarkable clarity.

Green Mountains and Clear Waters

1. Petal Installation

Eighteen vertically blended D Pro-Series projectors deliver high-resolution projection mapping onto irregular petal-shaped structures, presenting China’s achievements in ecological conservation and sustainable development.

2. Ecological Corridor

Seventeen D Pro-Series projectors create an interactive digital corridor using radar and depth sensors. Visitors trigger visual changes such as blooming flowers or startled birds—an immersive demonstration of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.

3. Guqin Intangible Heritage

Four projectors synchronize dynamic ink-style visuals with the rhythm of the guqin, creating an elegant “audio-visual symbiosis” that expresses the philosophical depth of traditional music.

Endless Vitality

1. Journey Through the Nine Heavens

Ten concealed D Pro-Series projectors generate swirling starfields and nebulae. Visitors’ messages ascend as holographic “star wishes,” symbolizing the ambitions of China’s lunar exploration program.

2. Journey Across the Five Oceans

Twelve projectors integrate deep-sea imagery from The Classic of Marine Creatures with modern oceanographic scenes such as the “Jiaolong” submersible, creating a seamless interactive deep-sea environment.
